Harvard fears patriotic celebrations on July 4th!

Why? Because according to a new study, "July 4th patriotic celebrations create more Republicans"! No, seriously, two people actually made a study on this. With over a dozen pages filled with graphs and charts and all. I mean, it's great to be curious about some things, but wow, I'm surprised someone had the time to do this. Can't you stop being a dork for a second and just party? I sound like a douchebag but this study just reeks of paranoia.

Beware! The Republicans are coming!

The study focuses on the years 1920-2008 and notes: "The political right has been more successful in appropriating American patriotism and its symbols during the 20th century."

The authors add:

Taken together, the results indicate that Fourth of July celebrations in the United States shape the nation’s political landscape by forming beliefs and increasing participation, primarily in favor of the Republican party.

If you want to read the study, click here. But I'm sure you'll have better things to do... like, celebrate the Fourth of July!!!!

P.S.
Here are more killjoys...
When some Americans look to the skies this Fourth of July, they may see more than fireworks.

In 26 states -- including Michigan -- small planes will be carrying banners that read "God-LESS America" or "Atheism is Patriotic."

It is an attempt by a group called American Atheists to show that atheists, too, have a place on the day that celebrates our nation's independence. The group is encouraging people to spread photos of these planes when they see them and to call their local TV news channels to increase coverage.

Can't you think of a better time to shove your views down our throats? Say, next week?

GOD BLESS!!

When atheists say that they love America I have a hard time believing them. This is because the tenants of Christian faith are central to the republic. I have a lot of friends that are atheists. They are very cocky about their beliefs yet at times they struggle with the concepts of good and evil...right and wrong.

I'm reading Donalds Rumsfeld's book "Known and Unknown". It's very interesting going back to read about the Nixon administration.

About atheists being cocky- I totally agree. And no, there's no right and wrong with them, everything's all gray and in some cases evil can even be excused. Doesn't go for ALL atheists, of course. Some are nice and just don't really care.

I haven't read Rummy's book- I am still going through the Bob Woodward/Tom Ricks stuff. Pretty good if you can get past the bias. But I love me some Rummy!
