Check it.

More after the jump!
Here's what I used for this look:

After exfoliating my face, I used Dior's Capture Totale Make-Up Base to prep my face for make-up. Capture Totale has subtle gold shimmer that gives your face natural-looking radiance. It dries fast and doesn't feel sticky.

Next I dabbed a bit of MAC's Studio Sculpt concealer under my eyes to mask the effects of insomnia. HAH.

To keep things light, I skipped out on using foundation and opted for MAC's Pro Longwear liquid concealer. I applied a thin layer on my cheeks, forehead, chin, and nose to highlight those areas. Then I used MAC's Studio Finish powder to set my makeup.

For my eyes, I used MAC's "Gilt By Association" mineralize eyeshadow. Swirled together it comes off more black than gold, so I didn't feel the need to apply another color. The only other things I used on my eyes were TheBalm's Jealous Jordana eyeshadow
(as eyeliner)
and MAC's False Lashes Mascara.

For my cheeks, I used MAC's "Love Thing" mineralize blush to give my cheeks a rosy glow. I also used The Body Shop's shimmer bronzer to give my face a sun-kissed look.

Then finally, for my lips, I decided use nude shades to keep the focus of my look on my eyes. The lipstick I used here is from L'Oreal's Aishwarya Rai line. Then I topped it off with MAC's Demure Dazzleglass Creme gloss.

Here's the finished look:

I was lucky to get a hold of it before it sold out online and in stores! I wasn't surprised that it flew off the shelves within seconds of its release. After all, Betty Bright has a beautiful, peach-coral shade with strong pink undertones and a satin finish. Who doesn't want a lipstick like that?

The only downside I can think of it is its formula. Since it has a satin finish, you have to remember that "less is more." Too much product will cause it to settle into lines- It may also look uneven after pressing or rubbing your lips together. To prevent this, just apply a thin layer of lipbalm or lipgloss before swiping on your lipstick (two layers at the most).

More after the jump!
Here's another photo of me wearing Betty Bright. It looks more pink-coral than peach-coral, but either way, the color pops out.

And yes, that's a Donald Rumsfeld book I'm holding. That's the right-wing nutjob in me, and it ain't holding back!
I didn't like everything in the collection, but one of the pieces that I had no regrets purchasing was Betty's Pearlmatte Flatter Me face powder. It's a beautiful peach blush with pink undertones and gold shimmer.

The best thing about Pearlmatte is that it highlights your cheeks without emphasizing your pores. It doesn't have an extreme metallic finish, just a subtle, peach-coral sheen.
I was lucky to get a hold of Stereo Rose before it sold out, so here's my short review on it.

Stereo Rose works as a blush/highlighter. It's a beautiful coral shade with pink undertones and light gold shimmer. It has a metallic finish that brightens up your face when applied with a light hand, so avoid putting too much of this on your cheeks- it might end up emphasizing your pores!

More after the jump!
Here's how Stereo Rose looks as as highlighter (on top of a pink mineralize blush). In this photo I used MAC's mineralize Love Thing.
This is why I love George W. Bush. He understands Christianity and freedom. Brought tears to my eyes.

"As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, would America have declared, 'Lord if only I could have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided'... We have an obligation to call this what it is- the false comfort of appeasement which has been repeatedly discredited by history."

I believe that freedom is a universal human right. My late grandfather used to talk a lot about this; in fact, as a kid he fought alongside American troops to free the Philippines from Japanese imperialism. He came out in support of the Iraq war because he himself knew what it was like to live under tyranny. Here's a snippet from an article he wrote for Time back in 2003, in support of the Iraq War:

In the Western classic film High Noon, citizens of a frontier town don't know what to do when they hear that a dreaded gang of bandits is riding in. At first they are in denial, fervently hoping the desperadoes won't sack their homes and businesses. In the end, they flee, leaving only the sheriff Will Kane, played by Gary Cooper, to face the approaching evil. Many people will disagree with me, but I liken George W. Bush to Will Kane. While other leaders are confused and undecided about the terrorist threat that Iraq poses to the world, President Bush is clear and focused. On Iraq, he is the brave sheriff...

During World War II, the U.S. rescued Europe from Nazi tyranny and Asia from Japanese imperialism. As a then member of the Philippine guerrilla resistance against Japan, I was proud to count Americans as my comrades-in-arms. We fought together in a common cause, and I witnessed many of them dying for my country. I will never forget that...

I know that Israel is more than capable of defending itself, but the country is also surrounded by so much hostility. I just can't understand why so many people are now calling for Israel to be abandoned in favor of Palestine. (Just argued with a Paulbot.) Now if Israel needs some foreign aid to help build missile defense systems to protect itself from a-holes like Iran, it should be given to them. They are that one bright spot of democracy in that region, and the country itself means so much to Jews and Christians. Imagine if Israel were abandoned, and taken down by Iran. It's a scary thought.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6202403935928479680.post-17071202993952837162012-07-27T02:22:00.000-07:002012-07-27T04:31:29.450-07:00One of George W. Bush's greatest legacies- PEPFAR

Father & son receiving ARTs though PEPFAR.

So I've been arguing with a Paulbot about PEPFAR. For the life of me, I can't imagine anyone who would disagree with PEPFAR and its positive impact on HIV-prevention in Africa... unless that "anyone" is a full-blown Paulbot. Just think about this: Since 2003, George W. Bush's bold HIV/AIDS initiative has saved millions of lives in Africa. ARTs, or antiretrovirals treatment, became widely available in parts of the continent that once had very little hope of obtaining it. PEPFAR has also helped those who suffer from different diseases. From the Stanford School of Medicine:

PEPFAR, the largest U.S. initiative ever devoted to a single disease, has helped save lives from all causes, not just HIV/AIDS... The program was begun in 2003 under President George W. Bush and is considered one of his greatest achievements. Though its goal was primarily to fight HIV/AIDS, the new study suggests it has had a spillover effect, benefiting individuals with other health problems as well.

I know that PEPFAR had massive funding at least until 2008, but can you really put a price tag on people's lives? And if you were to launch a global fight against terrible diseases, wouldn't you want the best of the best on your team? Funding for PEPFAR included the salaries for its personnel (which included the medical staff, outreach workers, peer councilors, etc) and the money needed to build health clinics and properly arm them with working equipment. I highly doubt that private donors alone cold have funded this.

If you could save helpless people from dying, if you could help a mother prevent her disease from transferring to her child, wouldn't you?

Is this really so wrong?

Hopefully one day there wouldn't be a need for PEPFAR, that those in Africa will no longer need to depend on foreign aid to get their treatments. But things like that... it's easier said than done. We are talking about towns, cities, provinces that have very little hope for the future. They depend on foreign aid because they can't depend on ANYONE- not their own governments, not even their own families. Can you honestly look a dying mother in the eye and say, learn how to fish?

Can you?

Sometimes a little compassion... can save millions of lives.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6202403935928479680.post-884403771193513772012-07-24T02:25:00.001-07:002012-07-24T02:27:36.571-07:00Dinner date!

Been wearing this a lot lately. It's not my favorite shade but I find myself wearing it to work almost everyday. A bit of caution though- it has a very strong raspberry shade, so unless you want to look like a walking disco ball from the 80s, it's best to use just a little bit of this. The best thing about the flecks of gold shimmer is it doesn't make you look glittery at all- it just adds a subtle glow to your face. Lasts all day too!

Been so busy with work... so anyone excited about Mitt Romney? I love that guy- totally boring and all, but Santorum was too extreme for me and Newt was just...meh. Anyway, as of right now Romney is ahead of Obama in the polls so I'll keep my happy face on.

Anyway here's another reason to celebrate:

For the second time this year, a federal appeals court shielded a former
Bush administration lawyer from a lawsuit filed by a convicted
terrorist who alleged the attorney’s so-called “torture memos” led to
his illegally harsh treatment while in U.S. military custody.

Ridiculous. Kinda ironic that a CONVICTED terrorist is suing people for the "harsh treatment" he received while he was in military custody. This coming from a deranged lunatic who planned to help al-Qaeda detonate a radioactive bomb just a year after 9/11. This guy needs to be re-waterboarded.

“The 9th Circuit’s decision confirms that this litigation has been
baseless from the outset,” said John Yoo, now a law professor at the
University of California, Berkeley. “For several years, Padilla and his
attorneys have been harassing the government officials he believes to
have been responsible for his detention and ultimately conviction as a
terrorist. He has now lost before two separate courts of appeals, and
will need to find a new hobby for his remaining time in prison.”

BOOM. I'm lovin' the smackdown! Didn't expect anything less from one of GWB's former aides! Check out the entire article here: CLICK!

In a good way.
Time: Why Is Donald Rumsfeld on This Package of Spicy Peanuts?
By Catherine Mayer

There are, in this salty tale of frolics, politics and peanuts, a number of what Donald Rumsfeld might call known knowns. These are things we know that we know -- such as how a photograph of a young Rumsfeld, a chopstick balanced on his protruding upper lip as he gazes at a giggling Geisha, came to decorate packets of U.K. snack food manufacturer Tyrrell's Spicy Coated Peanuts. "All our packs feature imagery which aims to be rather entertaining, quirky and just a bit different from the norm of popping a slice of cheese and an onion on the front of a pack," emails Oliver Rudgard, Tyrrell's Marketing Director. "We thought this image was in line with our brand's light-hearted and slightly eccentric view on life."

The story is rich with known unknowns, too. For example, we know that the former White House Chief of Staff and Secretary of Defense did not know that his more than slightly eccentric portrait was being used this way until TIME informed his people.

And here's another Rumsfeldian known unknown: few Britons ripping open a packet of the wasabi-flavored treats would recognize the anonymous man unwittingly pressed into service to promote the product. There's no caption to the photograph on the packaging. "We chose it because we loved the picture," confirms Rudgard. "The fact that Donald Rumsfeld was featured was merely coincidental." Indeed, the packaging was an unknown unknown. British consumers didn't know they didn't know the story behind it.

Coincidence ensured that this unknown unknown and the known unknowns became known knowns. An eagle-eyed TIME staffer picked up a few groceries in a convenience store during a recent holiday in the north of England. He spotted the photograph and felt sure it belonged to a set taken by the photographer David Hume Kennerly during President Gerald Ford's 1974 visit to Japan. Kennerly, duly contacted, confirmed a further known unknown. Like Rumsfeld, he had no idea that the image had found a new and salty-fingered audience.

President Barack Obama, criticized by Republicans for slowing job growth by over regulating, has weakened proposed rules at a greater rate than President George W. Bush, according to a new study.

The White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs changed 76 percent of agency rules submitted for review under Obama, compared with 64 percent under his Republican predecessor, according to the study from the Center for Progressive Reform. Obama also has ignored requirements that he disclose documents exchanged between OIRA and federal agencies, the report said.

“We are disappointed because we thought President Obama had great potential,” Rena Steinzor, president of the center, a Washington-based research group that supports health and environmental rules, said in an interview. “He promised us he would be transparent, but he is just as bad as Bush.”

The scope of government regulation has emerged as a major issue in the 2012 presidential race and on Capitol Hill. Republican presidential candidates have accused Obama of stifling job creation by imposing rules on business, and House Republicans have vowed to rein in proposed regulations on everything from the environment to health care to banking.
I love seeing Jenna Bush on the Today Show! So cute! I think it's great someone out there is showing some appreciation for all the hard work and selfless service the Bush ladies do. I just love 'em all. And I think it's awesome that Condi Rice is the one who's going to present them the award!
They are Women of the Year because: “They are giving a voice to women who otherwise might not have one. They personify the belief that every woman’s life has potential.”
—former Secretary of State and 2008 Woman of the Year Condoleezza Rice

Glamour.Com: When Laura Bush left the White House in 2009, she could have quietly retreated to her Texas ranch. Her twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara, could have launched lucrative careers or slipped back into private life. Instead, with little fanfare, this trio have become hugely powerful advocates on behalf of women, children and the world’s neediest. “We haven’t seen anything like this before,” says First Lady historian Myra Gutin. “They’re using their celebrity and credibility as a springboard for lasting good.”

It all starts with Mrs. Bush. “In Afghanistan she’s like Mother Teresa—a saint to women,” says political consultant Mary Matalin. Since 2001, when the then First Lady preempted her husband’s radio address to warn about the Taliban’s oppression of Afghan women, she’s been a driving force behind girls’ schools and women’s empowerment programs there. And building on her groundbreaking breast cancer work in the Middle East in 2006, Mrs. Bush just started the $75 million Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon campaign to offer cervical cancer care and breast cancer care in sub-Saharan Africa.

As for her 30-year-old daughters, “the apples didn’t fall far from the tree,” says Today’s Matt Lauer, who works with Jenna, a contributor to the show. Both on air and off, Jenna has promoted AIDS awareness and has helped raise more than half a million dollars for women’s and children’s health programs at UNICEF. Barbara, meanwhile, quit a museum job in 2008 to found the ambitious Global Health Corps, which dispatches young professionals to work in clinics in poor communities—from Rwanda to Newark, New Jersey—and then spread their work to other countries. “It’s addictive to be in a field where you can change lives,” Barbara says. Her daughters’ path leaves Mrs. Bush awestruck. “I’ve always been proud of them,” she says, “but I never would have predicted what they’ve chosen.” Former President George W. Bush beams, “They are all strong, compassionate and loving people.” And the world has noticed: “What these three are accomplishing for global health and development is fabulous,” says Helene Gayle, M.D., president of the antipoverty group CARE. “They are quite a team.”Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6202403935928479680.post-82867615633329024602011-11-25T02:55:00.000-08:002011-12-01T00:48:47.512-08:00Crabtree & Evelyn Jojoba Oil Triple Milled SoapI love this soap. It reminds me of the freshness of the ocean! The packaging is darling too- the little painted picture on the box reminds me of water nymphs and mermaids.

Let me start with the scent- it's very fresh, very breezy. According to Crabtree & Evelyn's website, the scent is made up of green herbs, citrus and lavender. So if you're into clean scents with a hint of floral and fruity goodness, you'll love this. Too bad the scent doesn't last forever! It smells so good it would make hippies want to take a shower!

This is a very moisturizing soap and it works into a rich, creamy lather. I love how it makes my skin feel so fresh and smooth! As you can see from the photos, it's pretty thick. Definitely not for travel. But at least it lasts a while. From The American Thinker: The ideas that federal spending exploded under George W. Bush, that "Bush's wars" account for our spending explosion, that Reaganism died with Reagan, and that we are on a spending binge that started decades ago are all nonsense.

Our current spending binge is a very recent phenomenon with a very specific starting point: the year Democrats started writing budgets (or continuing resolutions), compounded by Barack Obama's inauguration.

...In 2007, total spending was 19.6% of GDP, a level nearly matching that of 1996, and comfortably below the average level of spending from 1960 through 2000: 20.3% of GDP. And that relatively low level of spending in 2007 included War-on-Terror spending. Without the WOT, a reaction to being attacked on our soil, federal spending in 2007 was just 18.4% of GDP -- a level not experienced at any time between 1967 and 1999, and nearly matching the post-1966 low of 18.1% in 2001.

There is something else special about 2007. That was the last fiscal year in which the federal budget was written by a Republican-controlled Congress.

They have good quality products and I adore their packaging. I'm such a package-whore. Like if you really want me to buy something, just make it look pretty. Summer Hill Hand Therapy comes in a simple but clean and elegant tube... so when I first laid my eyes on it, I knew I had to have it! I've been using this for some time now and I'm happy to say that nothing can beat its creamy splendor.

There's a bigger size, but right now I'm using the travel-size version 'cause I'm always out a lot.

The one pictured above is smaller in size, but it's the one I bring with me to work because the tube is thinner than the original size. I think it's great they come in two sizes because I can just slip this into my purse and leave the bigger one at home. Now there are various hand creams from Crabtree & Evelyn but Summer Hill is my favorite scent. It has this beautiful, somewhat powdery, floral scent that makes me think of a bright, blooming garden nestled in between the fading pages of a Jane Austen novel. (Say what?)

The cream itself is a wonder. It's non-greasy and feels soft and moisturizing. It easily absorbs into your skin so you don't need to worry about sticky, goopy hands. This is definitely on my "repurchase" list.

More after the jump!
(Source)

DALLAS (AP) — Former President George W. Bush will travel to Africa next month to raise awareness about cervical and breast cancer, an effort he calls a "natural extension" of a program launched during his presidency that helps fight AIDS on the continent.

Bush, former first lady Laura Bush and officials with the George W. Bush Institute are heading to Tanzania, Zambia and Ethiopia from Dec. 1 through Dec. 5, where they'll visit clinics and meet with governmental and health care leaders.

"We believe it's in our nation's interest to deal with disease and set priorities and save lives," Bush told The Associated Press.

In 2003, Bush launched the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR, to expand AIDS prevention, treatment and support programs in countries hit hard by the epidemic.

The new program, called the Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon initiative, seeks to expand the availability of cervical cancer screening and treatment and breast care education in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America.

Bush said existing AIDS clinics will be used to screen and treat cervical cancer, which is four to five times more common among those living with HIV than those who don't have the virus. Last year, 3.2 million people received antiretroviral treatments as a result of PEPFAR.

The initiative is a partnership that includes the Bush Institute, PEPFAR, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the United Nations' program on HIV and AIDS. Its goals include reducing cervical cancer deaths by 25 percent in five years among women screened and treated through the initiative.

"We want to show what works and hopefully others across the continent of Africa will join us,'" Bush said.

Dr. Eric G. Bing, director of global health at the Bush Institute, said it's often more difficult for African women to reveal they have cancer of the reproductive organs than to reveal they have HIV. There are more support groups and treatment available for HIV than cancer, he said.
"There's silence around cancer for many of these communities and in many of these nations. And that's one of the things that we hope to change," Bing said.
Bush moved to Dallas after leaving office in 2009. The George W. Bush Presidential Center, which is set to be completed in 2013 on the campus of Southern Methodist University, will include his presidential library and the already-operating policy institute. Besides global health, the institute focuses on education reform, human freedom and economic growth.

Bush said he and the former first lady will be "pouring our hearts" into the Bush presidential center as it grows.

"This is where we will spend the rest of our lives in the sense of being involved with public policy," Bush said.
Here's another one! I think I'm too gaga for Lola Cosmetics! It's a great make-up brand and I can't say this enough. But I must admit that not all of their products are great. And unfortunately, this lipgloss is one of them.
There's nothing wrong with this product. It's okay. And that's just the thing- I was expecting it to be more. I was hoping for a grand slam of a color to give oomph to my puckers! Just like what their Lip Art Pots do. But lawd almighty, I didn't get that! What I got was a hint of red and so-so shine. It's one of those meh products that you end up forgetting about.
